Pocophone F1 to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, Xiaomi hints

Ever since Xiaomi confirmed ‘Poco’, there’s been a lot of buzz around its upcoming sub-brand. Adding to all the hype is a tweet by the Chinese company where it has confirmed a partnership with Qualcomm. This can be taken as a not-so-subtle hint that the soon-to-be-launched Pocophone F1 will be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 845 SoC.
There are two reasons why it is expected that the Pocophone F1 will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset. First, the chipset was recently all but confirmed courtesy of an unboxing video. Secondly, it also falls in line with a letter by Xiaomi India’s Lead Product Manager, Jai Mani, where he mentioned that the focus for Pocophone F1 is to “go back to basics and focus entirely on speed. Not just peak performance speed, but actual, real world, speed.”

With the Poco sub-brand, Xiaomi is said to be targeting the flagship killer segment in India, which is currently dominated by OnePlus. If reports are to be believed, the Pocophone F1 will be priced somewhere between Rs 30,000-40,000, and will be pit against the likes of the OnePlus 6.

Based on what has been leaked so far, the Pocophone F1 is expected to feature a 5.99-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display, and there will be three variants to choose from – 64GB+6GB, 128GB+6GB, and 256GB+8GB. The internal memory will be expandable with the help of a microSD card that will slot into the hybrid SIM setup.

For photography, the smartphone is rumored to come with a dual-camera setup (12-megapixel+5-megapixel) at the back, and a 20-megapixel selfie camera. Other rumored features include a 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, fingerprint sensor, face unlock feature, and USB Type-C port. On the software front, it could run Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5.
